Sydney Taxi Fare Estimates — How Your Fare Is Calculated
Every booking request comes with an estimated fare, shown once the request is sent. This page explains what goes into that number, and what sits outside it.

The calculation
What goes into a Sydney taxi fare estimate
The estimate is built up in a fixed order, so the same trip always produces the same figure.

Route distance
The form calculates the driving distance across every leg of your trip, including any stops you added.

Distance fare
A base fare of $12.40 plus $3.35 per kilometre, plus a booking fee. A pre-calculated fare estimate carries a slightly higher booking fee and a small buffer.

Vehicle
The vehicle you choose applies a price multiplier. A sedan is the baseline; larger and specialised vehicles cost more to run and are priced accordingly.

Extras
A baby seat adds a fixed surcharge. Extra passengers beyond those included with a maxi or 11 seater each add a further share of the distance fare.

Distance band
One adjustment is applied for the band your trip falls into. Only ever one — bands are not stacked.

Minimum, then night pricing
The applicable minimum fare is enforced, then night pricing is added once if your pickup time falls inside the evening window.
Why a range
The fare is shown as a range, not a single number
Routes, traffic and conditions vary, so the confirmation page shows an estimated range centred on the calculated fare rather than pretending to a precision it does not have. Under $50 the range is rounded to the nearest dollar; above that, to the nearest five dollars.
If you pay online by card, the exact amount to the cent, including the website card surcharge, is shown on the secure payment page before anything is authorised.

Current settings
Minimum fares, night pricing and the airport toll
These are the settings currently applied. They are configurable and can change — the estimate shown when you send your booking request is always the authoritative figure for your trip.

Night pricing is applied once, after the minimum fare, and never per stop. The airport pickup toll applies only when the airport is where you are collected. Full detail is on the fare pricing policy page.
Distance bands
One adjustment for the distance band your trip falls into
Trips are grouped into five distance bands. Exactly one band adjustment is applied to a fare — they are never combined. The 12 to 20 kilometre band is the reference point and carries no adjustment.
- Under 12 km — Short trips across a suburb or into a nearby centre.
- 12 km to 20 km — The reference band — no distance adjustment is applied.
- Over 20 km to 35 km — Cross-city runs and most airport trips.
- Over 35 km to 60 km — Outer metropolitan trips.
- Over 60 km — Long-distance journeys beyond the metro area.
Night pricing
Evening and overnight trips
Night pricing currently adds 20% to trips with a pickup time between 18:00 and 06:00, Sydney time. It is calculated on the fare after the minimum has been applied, and added once.
For a booking placed for later, the surcharge is decided by the pickup time you set, not the time you send the request. That means an advance booking made in the afternoon for a 5am airport run is priced as a night trip.

What the estimate does not cover
These are charged by the driver or operator, not by us, so they cannot be included in a booking estimate.
